Rules and Regulations
The Fotrally is a nonstop walking competition around the clock - until there is only one participant left. The start signal will go off on 30 June, at approximately 9 p.m. (the exact time will be decided in august. Starting point is Rålambshovsparken in Stockholm. The race will follow along the east coast – and it will end where and when there is only one participant left standing.
How does it work? All participants walk together at 5km/h. The group of contestants will be led by a bicycle, and a few hundred meters behind the contestants there is another bicycle. It is not allowed to pass the front bike, or to let yourself be passed by the bike in the back. If this should happen, he/she will be disqualified. The distance between the bicycles will be adjusted to the number of participants.
Registration You sign up here. The fee is SEK 600 per contestant. You must be 18 years or older to participate.
Breaks There will be no breaks, except for visiting the toilets. (read more under Toilets below). However, there will be two short stops along the way for ferry transportations.
Route The fotrally will follow the bicycle route along the Swedish east coast. The route is planned by the Swedish Bicycle Association (Svenska Cykelsällskapet), and consists of mostly small and main roads, passing through villages and minor cities. We will upload detailed maps over the rout in September.
Support The contestants can either choose to carry their belongings or use a support car. The support car are able to assist the contestant every sixth hour on predetermined places (see the map witch will be uploaded in September). No other support is allowed during the contest, and no one other then the contestants or the Fotrally´s staff are allowed on the “racetrack”. If you cant manage your own support car, you can (for a fee of SEK 90,-) leave one piece of baggage with the Fotrally´s staff at the starting gate. You will then have access to that baggage every sixth hour.
Food and drinks Each contestant is responsible for his or her food. Either carried along, or provided by an support car. All food will be taken in while walking. Water will be provided by the Fotrally´s staff during the whole competition. All performance enhancers, (according to WADA’s list) are strictly forbidden.
Toilets There will be toilets on wheels available during the entire competition. And there is a time limit of a total 25 minutes per person/day. Each contestant have to plan their own toilet-time. There is no ”saving up” time in order to have more then 25 minutes. The Fotrally staff will be in control of the time limits, but the competitor is in him self responsible. There is no urinating on the side of the road. If someone is found doing so, there will be a deduction of 2 minutes from that persons toilet time. If anyone exceed 25 minutes those participants will be disqualified from the race.
Equipment All types of clothes and shoes are allowed. However, wheels of any form under shoes or feet are strictly forbidden. Extra equipment can be carried or provided by an escort car. Outside help, such as fixing or providing new equipment is allowed, but it is not allowed to ask for “physical” help, such as being pushed or carried along the way. Animals are not allowed in this competition. All contestants will wear a bib Each contester are responsible for wearing some sort of reflector between dusk and dawn.
How to win? The contestant who is the last one still on their feet will win the Fotrally. If its impossible to separate two or more contestants from each other, the one who spent the least time on the toilet is to be considered first in the result list. It is not allowed to come to an agreement or engage in pacts in order to achieve a “dead heat”. If this is found out, those contestants will be disqualified.
What do you win? The first prize is SEK 5.000. Possible taxes will be payed by the winner.
To leave the competition If a contestant wishes to leave the competition he or she can simply report this to the Fotrally management or just let themselves be passed by the bicycle in the back. The Fotrally medical staff can also order contestants to leave the competition if they consider it necessary. Their decision can not be appealed. The Fotrally management can also chose to disqualify contestants with regards to the regulations, or for safety reasons (for example, if a contestant should be a traffic risk due to exhaustion). The decisions made by the Fotrally management is final.
Drug test All participants in the Fotrally may be tested for doping. To be able to participate in the Fotrally all participants must sign a doping test consent form. The doping tests will be carried out by Drugtest Scandinavia AB, and will follow the WADA’s body of regulations.
Medical care First aid staff will be available around the clock during the competition. Participation in the Fotrally is at ones own risk.
After the competition Directly after leaving the competition the contestant will be picked up by the Fotrally escort bus where they can rest until their own support car arrives to pick them up, or until the bus pass a station (train or buss) at there own choice.
Transportation All participants are responsible for their own transportation from the competition after leaving the Fotrally.
Permissions for arranging the fotrally is granted by the Police Authorities in Södermanland, Östergötland and Stockholm, the Swedish National Road Association and those municipalities concerned.
